About Us
Our Aim
Bureng Association UK was established in 2012. It is a small charity registered in England and Wales with registration ZD09116.
The people of Bureng living in the United Kingdom agreed to come together and form an association called Bureng Association UK. We had a single aim at the time which was to stay connected, support each other in terms of hard and trying times but more importantly to keep the bond as people from the same village and be each other’s keeper.
Our key focus is to address, protect and serve the interests of all Burengkas living in the United Kingdom and Ireland. We want to foster a culture of social and community cohesion that will create a bond amongst ourselves and nurture strong connections of people from the same village.
We also want to help our members living in the United Kingdom and Ireland to easily integrate into their local communities by demonstrating good behaviour and tolerance.
We have extended our charitable activity to help promote the development and wellbeing of our community and our members. The charity has intervened in areas such as education, health, poverty relief and other socio-economic activities including women empowerment and gender advocacy in our community.
Bureng is a small rural village in the Eastern part of The Gambia about 220km from East of the capital city Banjul. It is situated in Jarra East in the Lower River Region of The Gambia, a region regarded as one of the poorest in the country.

- Covid-19 Intervention
Our first major intervention came in July 2017 when our beloved village of Jarra Bureng was hit by heavy rains and windstorms that caused serious damages to properties and livelihoods. As natives from Bureng, seeing our loved ones including women and children displaced and made homeless by this natural disaster to the point of seeking temporal shelters across the village was beyond heart breaking.
Over 645 people were seriously affected, that equates to about 81 households, and 39 compounds in which 5 compounds were completely displaced. This report was also verified by the Red Cross and National Disaster Management Agency who visited the village to access the impact of the damage. The affected families lost almost everything, and some households were without a meal, shelter or clothing in the aftermath of the heavy rains and windstorms.
As an association, we liaised with sister organisations such as Bureng Association USA, UK Jarra Association and the community of Bureng to provide emergency disaster response to the village.
